This section, which is due to be expanded, is dedicated to the most important people who, through time, have left mark in the Archives of their institutional and scientific activities in the field of the history of archaeology.

Biographical files on some important personalities who have, in the past, had a pre-eminent role in the history of the Soprintendenza are currently available.

  • Rodolfo Lanciani was an excavation engineer during a particularly rich period for findings related to the urban renewal of Roma Capitale.
  • Pietro Rosa was the first Superintendent of antiquities of Rome. His name is linked with the excavation of the Palatine under the rule of Napoleone III.
  • Giuseppe, Edoardo e Gugliemo Gatti three generations from the same family, were committed to the study of ancient topography.
  • Italo Gismondi was an architect in the offices of Ostia and Rome
  • Salvatore Aurigemma was Superintendent of antiquities of Lazio since 1942.
  • Giacomo Boni was a distinguished architect, archaeologist and one of the most important scholars of Italian archaeology between in the nineteenth century
